Mexican Strat-off | Fender Player Series vs Mexican Standard Stratocaster

Ibanez sounds poo
I had the Yamaha for a few months but sold it again because the neck and body were somehow too flexible. When resting the right arm on the body, the guitar went out of tune. Due to the bending of the body in relation to the neck. I have read similar comments from several users on the internet, no more sa2200 for me. Too bad because it is a beautiful guitar
I'm a great fan of 80s Ibanez guitars and basses. It's nice to hear someone who know how "Ibanez" should be pronounced. Thank you for that, and for the whole video.
Honestly the worst test i´ve seen
Perfect demo thanks
Doesn't the WL20 transmitter have USB charging point?
you guys are all talk
I had both from the 80's, the Yamaha is brighter and more "hi-fi" and acoustic sounding, better build quality as well. Ibanez AS (never tried the JS) from the era is not as well build with binding coming off, but they have bassier and more mid range sounding pickups, even the 90's AS doesn't have as nice finishing to detail as Yamaha, binding issues, loose jacks etc. I prefer the Yamaha, can see why this owner on the video change the pickups.
Sure you can’t beat physics. You simple multiply the six inches of the woofer by the two inches of the tweeter, and voilà: twelve inches.
Player is better
Line6 sounds better
It only works with hollow body archtops. Semies and full body guitars sound crap.
I've got 3 MX Teles, 1st was a beat up old 2011, 60th ann' Black / maple for cheap. Next was a 2017 Olympic? White / maple, then a Player Butterscotch, Blackguard, Maple. I really like all of them, equally but the Player definitely has "More of that Tele Thing"! Good comparison video. I have 1 MX Strat, a Jimmie Vaughan Signature with D Allen VooDoo Blues p'ups. Frickin Awesome! I play that more than my "Rarely Played" 09 US STD, Sunburst maple. Scared to scratch it! I should do a comparison with a couple of MIJ 80s Squier Strats. Looking for a MIJ Tele now.
These are gonna keep growing when they catch on, amazing amps.😊
Bro someone tell me how I can learn to play the riff at 7:18 like that
Killer video
So basically the player is a standard with better pickups.
The standard is much better overall, higher ouput so you can set your amp overdriven and tame that with your vol knob on your standard Strat, put in a treble bleed and you're good to go, way more versatile guitar.
Sorry, Mexican was better.
The old MIM standard has a fuller sound
AMEN TO YOUR EARS, I AGREE.
I found a red jazz grip laying on the street years ago. Love the smaller size and the soft sound.
see as well an AS200 here: ua-cam.com/video/1AfIiJkllDo/v-deo.htmlsi=lZDUCZ0CAZD7PF9v
So do you still have it? Any change of thoughts in 4 years? Thinking about getting one 😎👍
Definitely! I do mainly jazz guitar gigs and it has been my main amp since I got it. Sits on top of my largely unused Princeton Reverb. I teach jazz guitar everyday and we plug in clean to it for lessons. I carry it to every gig. Jazz guitar gigs, clean sound for pretty much everything I do. Most gigs it's just that alone, fills the whole bar, restaurant or wedding reception. If I need more volume I carry an extra speaker cabinet or plug into the venue's PA system.
@@GASTV Hey thanks for the quick reply, very much appreciated! Sounds exactly like what I’m looking for! 😊
You have to crawl behind the amp with a torch and a magnifying glass if you want to find the power switch......👎
The buds actually do go to 11. Thats hilarious.
I bought both the standard and player, after a while, I decided to sell the player and keep the standard. The player seems like a better guitar than the standard, however, it is trying to be too perfect, too clean, too nice, too shiny, with the brand new alnico 5 and blah blah blah, all that's good and all, but I prefer the character, attitude and imperfection of the standard. Compared to the player, the standard is stupid loud and bassy, but you just need to dial down the volume and the low mid on your amp, then you can get that vintage tone.
Imo, there is no point in playing the standard with all the eq's pointing at 12 o'clock on your amp, you have to dial down the bass and the mid, because it is way too much on these Mexican standards, to the point that it masks all the higher frequencies and everything else. But as soon as you dial down the bass and the mid, you'll hear the familiar "straty-ness" that people talk about. It's not that complicated really. But I like the vibe on the standard way more, the player is too clean and vanilla.
jazz a four letter word that gets yourmouth washed out with soap
Thanks! And greetings from hobart.
I'm looking at carpal tunnel surgery in both hands, I only have numbness while I'm sleeping. So I'm a bit worried and I really appreciate these videos!
I own Boss WL 50 and find it great! The cable tone off, short and Long makes a difference. I keep mine OFF.
Best comparison I’ve seen.
This is literally the BEST comparison between new Strats and older MIM Strats on the internet. I don't know why it's buried all the way down in the search results.
Do you think endoscopic surgery would work?
I am perfectly fine now. Was pretty much 100% after the general period of recovery after the surgery. Endoscopic surgery would have probably worked just as well and definitely would have been less intrusive and healed quicker, but in my case given I had slipped discs contributing to my hand numbness and potentially complicating the diagnosis, my surgeon recommended we go open surgery to be absolutely sure he cut it cleanly. That way whatever numbness I still had post-op would definitely not be related to my carpal tunnel.
@@GASTV Thank you for getting back to me. I am happily you are doing well. I fear the surgery but will probably have to get it done. It’s impacting my desire to practice and I don’t play as well. Thanks for your insight!!!!
How are you doing now?
wack plays
Even thought everything said has been factual. There seems to be a bit of bias towards the mim strat (not the player series). Like a car, does one say a 1967 impala is worse than a 2023 impala because it doesn't have heated seats? 🤔
Just wondering about mobility after carpal tunnel surgery. Long term update please ?
Thanks for asking. Absolutely no issues post surgery. The procedure was largely uneventful (other than me being an idiot and pushing myself to play too soon) and my hand was back to normal in the weeks following the last video updates. Have gotten several queries about whether I thought the procedure was the correct thing to do. In my mind, there was no other choice as the alternative would eventually lead to lost of sensation and mobility in the hand, long term irreversible nerve damage and muscle degradation. By contrast, the procedure was a simple cut of some underlying tissue with no loss of any hand functionality and minor healing. Putting a pin and plate in to fix a broken bone would be significantly more invasive but we wouldn't hesitate to do it if we needed it. Have heard of a few negative experiences from viewers but mostly related to the lack of post-operative care in various health systems (cough*USA*cough) rather than anyone being butchered. Hope that helps.
You guys are cork sniffing. Nothing that can’t be tweaked by turning a few knobs.
I saw Doug McDonald play in Hawaii who played a gig with full drum set, and amplified bass. Doug played through this itty bitty mega Brute. And the sound was strong easily cutting thru the drums and bass
This Yam is sounding beautiful in singlecoil mode.
Wow your so lucky to have been given sedation, and been given pain relief meds!. I'm in Australia, and had my surgury 5 days ago, and was given local anesthesia in my my hand which was absolutely horendiously painful, and was sent home with no pain relief, and went through absolute agony when the local wore off. My surgeon was a butcher, and stitched me up like a wrapping up a lamb roast with string. It's so tight I can hardly move my hand. My stitches come out next week, so I expect more pain. If you need to get the surgery done, don't get it done in Australia!. 😵😢😖
Wow, I’m sorry to hear you’re having a bad experience with your surgery. I live Melbourne, Australia and my surgery was obviously done locally. My surgeon was wonderful and I had a great overall experience. I did go private though but everything was covered under insurance with no hassles. Our healthcare system is pretty good here.
Wait, can you get that kind of crunch with this amp, that hear at the beginning of this video?
The player is better
Will you sell that AS200? If that's still available...
awww. I was interested until he said AUX replaces CH1 when used.
So use Ch 2 as your main guitar channel. Other than the aux input both channels are otherwise the same, so what's the difference to you? I mean, most of us use Ch 2 on our Fender amps, Ch 1 having been built for microphone input and having less gain.
i'm glad you did this, now i know it sounds terrible with a strat and distortion, i wonder how it sounds with a 335 and a little overdrive
I don't think you can draw that conclusion from this demo. Besides that you'd need to know how he preferred his settings on that Helix device of his, they also haven't addressed that The Bud has a Gain control which is, I believe, like a pre-amp, designed to adjust for low or high output pickups/mics/devices. It doesn't seem as if they made use of that function.
Great review and video. These amps are amazing. Much better that toting the old Roland J120 Jazz Chorus amp with twin twelves.
Oh hey Melbourne fuck yeah
Thanks for the post. After the Vai Academy last week I realized it is time for me. I have mod/severe CTS compound with tennis elbow, bursitis, degenerative disc in the neck and trigger finger. Went to my specialist and will be getting the surgery. Just been nervous and this video has settled me down a bit.
How is your hand currently? I am on the verge of getting carpal tunnel surgery due to my left hand weakening as well as dexterity problems with my ring and little finger. I am a steady gigging acoustic and electric guitar player and play 8-10 solo and group gigs a month. I have had to cancel the next four weeks because I can’t play at the level I have been playing at for the last 35+ years. I’m really hoping I can get my left hand strength and coordination back.
My hand is fully healed and back to normal... other than old age generally starting to affect me. You sound like you have it way worse than I did when I decided to get mine fixed. I wouldn't put it off, I decided to get it done when I had a mild case as there is risk of long term nerve damage if left untreated. The nerves in your hand can get damaged from the constriction of the carpal tunnel and there's not easy to fix and can be permanent in some cases. In some cases, patients apparently can get atrophy in the hand muscles as the damaged nerves result in reduced use and movement of the hand. Perhaps best to see a medical specialist and see what can be done for you at this stage.
